The view from our house (we're on the second floor). The mountains really are quite close.

A little get-together in our living room.

In Jinnah Park, which is close to our house, thousands of crows descend around sunset. In the background is Faisel Mosque, the second largest mosque in the world. It's right up the road from our house.

Jim in Jinnah Park, where we regularly go for walks.

Jinnah Park is huge, with many interesting things in it, like this marble gateway.

Sunset at Jinnah Park, just a few blocks from our house.

Not the greatest photo, but here's a bird's eye view of Islamabad. As you can see it's quite green, with a lot of trees. The taller buildings in the middle are the business district. In the background you can see Rawalpindi Lake, where we go canoeing. This was taken from a lookout point that we hiked up to in the mountains near our house.

Canoeing on Rawalpindi Lake, about a 20 minute drive from our house.

Christina standing in the doorway of a typical Pakistani truck. Yes, most of the trucks are decorated like this.

A typical scene outside of Islamabad, with people tending to agriculture. The smoke stack is part of a giant kiln for making bricks. Most buildings here are made of bricks (or concrete), so you see a lot of smoke stacks like this one along the road.

You know how when you live outside of the U.S. you find yourself strangely drawn to U.S. things that you would rarely be drawn to back home? Well...we couldn't resist going to the new McDonalds that opened recently in Islamabad. The best part was Christina's McArabia sandwich, which actually wasn't bad. A funny name since Pakistan isn't an Arab country.

A fun road sign.

Many of the earthquake-affected villages were high in the mountains, so Christina and her co-workers would hike up to villages to work with them about recovery efforts. This photo is from the inauguration of a temporary school.

Hiking to monitor school projects with colleagues, in the beautiful northern area of Swat. We started on the other side of the bridge and ended near the top of the mountain.
